I got the package from Canadian Scrapbooker that I've been waiting for. I got my layout back along with a letter thanking me and a magnet. According to the letter my copy of the magazine should be here in the next few weeks. That part was a little surprising. I thought I would get my copy when they sent back the layout. Regardless, I am super excited to see my layout in there. So is my mother since she's in the picture too.

Fave Friday

1. Thomas the Tank Engine. He's on Treehouse every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Monkey loves Thomas so much it gives me 30 mins to do whatever I need to do uninterrupted. Unless I'm in the bathroom. Monkey will still hunt me down if I'm in there.





2. Peanut Butter Cups. Is there anything better than these? I love to store them in the fridge overnight. They're so yummy when cold. I like to take my time eating them. I've been known to make them last an hour or more.




3. Peanut Butter Cup Brownie Bottom Cheesecake. Recipe here. Okay. I have a confession. I have never had one. But look at that picture! I am so making one of these babies!





4. My point-and-shoot camera, the Canon A590. As far as a point-and-shoot goes, it totally rocks! It even has a manual setting that lets you, the user, set the ISO. I love it.




5. Picasa 3 from Google. I can't afford any fancy picture editing programs. Someday I might be able to, but for now Picasa works great. I love it. You can download it for free here.

Sharing is good for the soul

And I need some good...

The weather is yucky today and I'm feeling it. Where's the sun? I want some sun. I'm okay with the snow not going away just yet. I just want some sunshine in my house. It's so dark in here.

First layout to share:

This one didn't turn out the way I first imagined it. I was orginally going to use just Steve's picture. Then I thought it might be cute to put my picture on it too. The journaling is impossible to read on here. I had fun with sanding, paint and glimmer mist. Then I hated it. Then I played some more and kinda liked it. Now I'm not too sure what to think of it. It's growing on me, but I think I could have done better.



Love this picture of Steve and I. I've scrapped it not once, not twice, but three times already. It's so rare we get our picture taken together. Even more rare that I like the picture. This one is a piece of vintage paper (from a magazine I believe) mounted onto cardstock. The vintage paper wasn't as big as I wanted, so I painted the edges to cover up the brighter-than-the-sun orange cardstock I used under it. The paint wasn't the right colour in the end. So I inked and chalked it and liked it in the end. The off-white, kinda pale yellow marks on the side are stars I painted with a ribbon. The ribbon had star cut outs in it, so I used it as a mask. I didn't have the right colour of paint so I mixed ivory and yellow. There's hidden journaling behind the picture. The picture is printed on normal white paper because I ran out of photo paper and was too impatient to wait an hour for Zehrs to print it out. And maybe a little lazy to leave the house that day. Maybe...

I love how this one turned out. And I really didn't know where I was going with this one. I softened the colours of my picture first. It reminded me of the papers I got in my January Bad Girls Kits. So I pulled out the Jennie Bowlin because I love any paper that's a die-cut or had a die-cut hole in it, and just started playing. I don't remember how I remembered I had the bird paper (also Jennie Bowlin), but I pulled it out and just started cutting. Once the bird and flowers were cut out, I decided to colour them. To give them a soft colour to match the picture, I used chalk. There's shimmery chalk in the center of the flowers. The faith card lead me to my title and the little rub-ons on the picture are words to remember. They're also Jennie Bowlin. They were in oval frames with little pictures. With a close look, you can find the tiny pictures else where on the layout, mixed among everything else. The frames didn't work for me, so they were tossed aside. Everything else on the page was put on with a "how would this look" frame of mind. The bird and the flowers are all on pop dots to I could sneak things under it with ease. This one is going on the wall!

Update on the finger:

It's healing. Slowly, but surely. Most of the skin is looking all nice and healthy again. Other than the marks all around it were the cut is. One side is still super painful to touch. Seeing how it's the only spot that's still really red, I'm keeping an eye out for anything bad. I can't stop touching it. It feels all sqwishy and weird. And according to me, the skin feels leathery. Steve just says I'm crazy. My nail is starting to grow. I'm curious to how it'll grow over the wound. Or if it'll grow over the wound. I can't wait for it to heal so I can use some scar reducing cream on it. It didn't work on my c-section scar, maybe it'll work on this one.

Ouch

I got a little more excitement than I wanted on Friday.
I decided to make cookies with Monkey. He was getting into everything so I decided to use his energy for good. Lacking in the baking supplies, I decided to make peanut butter cookies. Monkey helped me with the peanut butter, the sugar and the egg. Then he helped me mix it. Then I got a brillant idea. As Monkey licked off a spoon, I grabbed some Christmas chocolate and started chopping it up. Peanut Butter Chocolate Chunk cookies sounded pretty darn good to me.
Then I noticed Monkey dipping his spoon back into the cookie batter. I choose that moment to start m lecture about double dipping. Looking back, it was a useless lecture to give. What almost 2 year old understands germs? We're lucky if we can get through the day without him licking a toy or the floor.
Durning my useless lecture, I stopped paying attention to what I was doing. At least until I felt the knife go through something soft and sqwishy. Not like hard chocolate at all. It took a moment to figure it all out. Then painic set it.
Fast forward a few hours later...I was back at home from the hospital with super glue holding my chopped off flesh to it's missing place on my finger. It was super gross for the next couple of days. It's now getting nice and pink again. I no longer feel like I'm going to lose it and have a chunk of finger missing. It's still rather sore, but getting better.

Fave Friday

Finally remembered I wanted to give this a try.
Since I mainly blog about scrap related stuff; it only makes sense that my first fave Friday is about scrap stuff…Right? Here we go:

1. Sassafras Lass -- I love everything about them! From their (normally) bold colours, fun patterns and whimsical feel all the way to their super cute stamps. I think they need to add ribbons and brads to their lines. It would make them even better.

2. Prima’s new Mommy and Me line -- Talk about stinkin’ cute! I’ve loved it from the moment I say it on their blog. I can see layouts of Monkey and me already.

3. Chatterbox’s new Fab Tab Maker. I’ve always liked the look of tabs, but hardly ever use them. I think I would if I had this nifty little tool.

4. Mini Glue Dots -- Is there anything these tiny dots of glue can’t do?

5. Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine -- The bestest Canadian scrapbooking magazine in my humble opinion. I don’t have a sub to it, but wouldn’t mind one.

Alrighty then...Will Blogger behave today and let me post the pictures I want to post and place them where I want to place them? Let's see...

Ahh...Perfect...That's one of the pictures I wanted to share last time. An adorable baby picture. Can you guess who it is? It's not me. That picture is older than me! That adorable, little, chubby-cheeked baby is none other than Steve. Wasn't he a cutie? I absolutely adore this photo. I scanned it into the computer to use at my own will. I love the hair...Monkey's hair was like that.

Check out Mr Smiles! I don't know how old Steve is here. I'm guessing three or four. Rocking the early 80's tight fitting sweater. Want to know why I love this picture so much? Look at that smile...He still has that same smile. His nose still scrunches up a little like he's laughing at some unknown joke. That's not his posing smile; that's his real smile. And look at how blonde he was!

I don't really have much scrappy news to share. I had tried out for a couple of design teams, but never made it. I think Steve's more upset about it than I am. I may not be design team worthy, but I'm okay with that.
